What Makes us Different?
We believe that legal services are much more than just the law - they are about great people, sustained excellence and exceptional client service. We have a reputation in the legal market as a provider of premium legal services, and as a sought after employer.
As a medium sized firm, we're big enough to attract great clients with fantastic work; but small enough to be focussed on the important things like learning and development, opportunities for our people to progress, mentoring our junior lawyers and maintaining a happy workplace.
We care about our people, building a great culture and we believe you can produce great work whilst still having fun.
We have a distinctively happy workplace, achieved through selectively recruiting people who think and act collaboratively and will strengthen our culture. We have grown organically, resulting in a highly cohesive firm sharing a strong work and services ethic, and high staff and partner retention rates.
Personal & Professional Development
Career long learning and professional development is a feature of life at Lander & Rogers. We invest heavily in the development of our people through internal and external seminars, workshops and learning programs, and post graduate study.
All staff have the opportunity to create an individual development plan, supported by a peer program which addresses key learning and development competencies and is clearly aligned to the individual's role profile and the firm's goals. Ongoing coaching/mentoring, on-the-job training, action learning opportunities and feedback processes complement the programs provided to all staff members.
Our graduates undertake a part time Graduate Diploma of Legal Practice with The College of Law. As part of this, you'll receive training in substantive areas of law, such as property and litigation, and practical skills training in areas like client interviewing and negotiation.
In addition to practical legal training, our graduates also participate in a comprehensive internal Graduate Learning & Development Program, including training in drafting skills, presentation and networking skills, resilience and well being. Our focus is to give you all the tools you need to become a successful lawyer and more.
Looking after our people
Lander & Rogers offers a range of benefits to assist with career development, staying healthy and contributing to the community. We value our people and understand the importance of our staff maintaining a healthy and balanced lifestyle.
In particular, we make sure that opportunities for physical and health and wellbeing activities are easily available, such as group fitness, Yoga, triathlons, annual tennis tournament, in-house massage, health checks and more. We also make time for people to connect on a social level through our weekly staff drinks and other events.
We provide our people with the tools they need to maximise their broader professional and personal needs, by offering support for further studies, paid parental leave, flexible work arrangements and connections with the community through our 'Pro Bono & Community Support Program'.
Our Graduate Program
You are the future of our firm, so we invest in you. We make sure that you not only get a first-rate introduction to the law, but also an exciting start to a rewarding career. Your graduate year is filled with learning, strong working relationships, friendship, and lots of fun.
The year is built on four practice group rotations of three months each, covering both commercial and litigious areas of practice. We'll ask you to indicate your preferences and we'll do our best to accommodate everybody's interests.
The rotations help you develop broad skills in the law, an understanding of the different areas of our business, and give you a range of experiences to help you choose an area of practice following qualification.

You'll be well looked after. In each rotation you’re teamed with a buddy who will welcome you into the law firm environment and provide you with day-to-day support. You'll also have a more senior lawyer, your supervisor, who makes sure you experience:
- the best variety and volume of challenging work
- involvement with clients to speed your learning process
- coaching on skills development
- regular feedback on performance and progress
- advice on managing your transition into the legal profession.
Your practical work will increase in complexity as you develop skills, experience, and confidence with each rotation.
At the end of each rotation, you’ll debrief with your supervisor and HR contact to discuss your experiences and progress, and to set objectives for the next rotation. At the end of the final rotation, we’ll ask you for your preferred area of practice for placement as a qualified lawyer.

Our Seasonal Clerk Opportunities
Our clerkship programs are your opportunity to sample life in the law, and especially life at Landers – to see whether we’re right for you.
You’ll be among approximately 25 students who join us for four weeks working in a single practice area during the university holidays in Nov/Dec, Jan/Feb and June/July.

We’ll look after you. We’ll ask you what type of practice group you’d prefer. When you get there, you’ll be teamed with two lawyers – one senior and one junior – who’ll guide you through your day-to-day work. Depending on the practice group, it’s likely to involve:
- researching points of law and summarising your findings
- drafting correspondence, court documents, and sections of commercial agreements
- reviewing and analysing legislation and case law
- observing our lawyers in action at meetings, conferences, mediations, and court
- attending practice group discussions.
It’s not all work though. You’ll also be involved in activities like:
- practice group case study sessions to build your understanding of our areas of expertise
- careers sessions to map out your career possibilities
- workshops on practical skills like legal writing and taking instructions
- social opportunities like weekly coffee catch ups, Friday staff drinks, Pilates or Bootcamp.
These experiences will provide you with a much clearer idea of what it means to be a lawyer. You’ll also develop a better feel for the human side of Lander & Rogers, such as why our people work here, where they’ve come from, and what they do when they’re not being lawyers.
