How we work together

The different cultures, communities and countries within which we operate around the world are immensely varied. The way we actually interact with each other isn’t. The simple fact is: people here like working with each other. We help and challenge each other to develop our thinking and deliver our best work. In every office, you’ll find different perspectives, backgrounds, cultures and personalities to learn from.

Our people

There’s an energy and vibrancy you can feel here at Ashurst – and that’s thanks in large to the people who make up our firm. You’ll find a variety of talents, skill sets and backgrounds here, because we specifically seek them out. We trust all of our people and we respect what each of them can contribute as an individual. This we find, brings out the best in all of us: the best work, the best ideas and the best atmosphere.

Seasonal clerkships

The best way to understand what it feels like to work here is to actually work here! Every year, we hold clerkships in each of our offices to give you an intensive experience of our culture and the kind of work we do.

We work hard to make sure they’re as useful and as stimulating as possible. In our Australian offices, you’ll spend time in either one or two department, where you’ll work with a supervising partner, a lawyer and a buddy who’ll get you involved in real work. You’ll also attend workshops, department training, as well as get a chance to take part in team social events.

After completing your clerkship, you’ll have the opportunity to express interest in being considered for a place on our graduate programme.

Graduate Programme

Your program kicks off with an induction and education series where you’ll meet your peers in one location, giving you the chance to build your networks across the nation.

Back in your home office, you’ll benefit from local induction plus an in-house Practical Legal Training (PLT) course. It's tailored to our firm and so, as you might expect, some modules are chosen for you. We cover all the costs. We’ll also work closely with you to plan your three rotations, and we’ll review that plan regularly.

High-calibre international projects will open your eyes to the intricacies of modern business. As a graduate you will have the opportunity to widen your worldview by applying for a secondment within our global network. In fact, everything about the way we train you is designed to develop deftness in the way you think about challenges and ingenuity in the way you solve the
